The drive back to Las Vegas.

There are many recreational opportunities off highway 395 from lake Tahoe south to the end of the sierras.
View of the Sawtooth ridge in the Hoover wilderness west of Bridge port CA. This is from the road with a tele lens.

Stoped by Mono lake visitors center.

Rubicon Trail

Rubicon trail follows the shore of Lake Tahoe on the southwest side. From Rubicon point to Emerald Bay.

View from Rubicon point

At Times we were on a ledge high above the lake.

These are Sugar Pine cones. About 12 inches long, but they sometimes grow to 26 inches long. They are the largest cones in the US. But not the heaviest.

You can get balloon rides at the lake.

 Good sized Incense Cedar.

Hike to Velma lakes from Emerald Bay trailhead

This hike went to the high country where there are many lakes surrounded by granite. There were few new flowers on this hike.

This is Eagle lake, less than 1 mile from the parking lot. The wind was still allowing for a good reflection photo

Reaching the crest we could see the snow remaining on the ridge lines.

One new flower is Alpine Laurel.

Had our snack at this small lake that is fed by Upper Velma lake and feeds Lower Velma lake.

On the way back to the cars we saw this waterfall across a big valley from the trail we were on.

Portion of Eagle creek just above the bridge.

About 8.5 miles and 2300 feet. We could have cut across to upper velma around the south side of the pond we had lunch at....but didn't think of it at the time.

Mt Talac trail to Cathedral lake, and beyond.

This hike was near South Lake Tahoe. Starting at Fallen leaf lake, to Cathedral lake, and upward to the bowl below the ridge that leads to Mt Talac.

flowers from Echo lake to Tamarack lake

This hike started out near the south end of Lake Tahoe.  we hiked from the boat launch on Echo lake past upper Echo lake to Tamarack lake. Then past the lake, nearly to Lake of the Woods where snow covered the trail. A side trip up to a ridge top gave us views of Lake Tahoe, Fallen leaf lake, and Lake Aloha.
