Beyond Top of The World, Thru the rocks.

This easy+ hike is from P2 thru the rocks and Oak canyon, to the Prospect trail in order to explore some colorful rocks west of Prospect trail. Return is thru Bolder canyon which is a little shorter and easier.

Leaving (west) from the car you first crest a small ridge with some colorful rock if the light is right.

From there, on the back side of the small ridge turn right to descend a valley that leads to the wash where you turn left to go to the Eye of the Iguana. This wash also goes right and crosses the road just past P2.

Rock passed along the way

Familiar rock formation. On the left when hiking this direction.

Some good fin rocks

These Fin rocks are just before you turn left up the wash leading to The Eye of the Iguana.

Smooth rock slope with 3 bighorns. Papa, Mama, and Baby. Didn't have my telophoto but this shows the scale of the rocks.

The Eye of the Iguana. Our canyon thru to Prospect trail is the one to the left of the Eye that passes behind the other giant rock that has Top of the World arch on top. Thus the name of this hike. Beyond Top of the World.

In the canyon behind ToW looking up.

A series of verticle pockets that must collect rain.

We Surprised this rock on the way through.

Small window/arch shortly before an unapparent right turn into a small slot that opens into a "room" that you use for the final cut across to the Prospect trail. Otherwise you will have to go further south than necessary to get through to the Prospect trail. There is evidence that people go this way.

Rocky area just west of prospect trail.

We walked north in the Prospect wash to a  side wash leading west. We didnt follow it though, instead went west up the highground  beside it.

The notch in the top of the high ridge is where top of the top of the workd arch is. You could see Mike standing there looking down on us if you could zoom in a lot. Again this shows the scale of the rocks.

The general area has many colored rocks that are visible on google satelite. That was what prompted me to try the hike. Cutting through the rocks from P2 is much closer than walking the Prospect trail to get there.

We discover a New Arch.

Looking through the arch to Eye of the Iguana. (not visible from this side)

We wandered around till it was time to head back. To get back you just head for the Eye of the Iguana rock and look for the canyon that cuts through right in front of it angling left.

In a narrow part of Prospect trail.

Eye of the Iguana from the normal perspective as we were nearing the cars.
