P1-P2 Little Zebra Slot, Valley of fire

This hike starts at P1 on Mouse tank road. It goes east to drop into a small wash you follow to the left, parallel to the road till it reaches a big wash where you turn right (east)

One of the first interesting things you come to after about  a quarter mile is this slot I named Little Zebra slot.

When the wash opens up you can see other colorful rocks and Black Cap on distant right.

Turning right in the big wash you continue walking in sand with a few rocks showing through.

There was a rain the previous day making walking in the sand much easier than it would be normally. There were a few patches of quick sand.

Pools were full that are normally dry.

View of the Virgin mountains over a red ridge.

The first obstacle in the main wash is this area of large rocks passable on the right.

 patterns in the rock

Wild animal track in the sand.

At a large wash junction we turned left into Kaolin wash to head back toward the road.

A couple of Hoodoos were seen on the ridge line.

Also found a previously unknown to us "Writing". Notice some of the letters are missing due to exfoliation. A sure sign that they aren't new.

 There were two panels.

 Lipstick Rock?

This constriction is nearly to the Fire Wave area.

There were crowds at the Wave.

Rare chance to get a reflection on the way back to the car.

Total distance was 6 miles with only about 300 ft of gain spread out over the entire return path. Path was mostly sand and cobbles with larger boulders in some areas. We took our time and were back to the car in around 4 hours.
