14 Sierra Clubbers started out at 9:30 on an 8 mile hike to see the best selection of petroglyphs in Nevada.
This is the first slab we hiked up within a few yards of the car. It leads to a view point of the first panel.
First panel
Returning to the trail and continuing the next right off the trail leads to this rock.
Detail of that rock
Upper part of the rock. There is a name for this rock, but I forgot what it is.
Shortly past the last rock the trail bends toward this red capped outcrop where the hole is that leads to the shelf you follow to reach "Falling Man"
Just before the hole these sheep are on the right.
At the hole there is a Christmas tree on the roof.
On the exit side of the hole you drop down a few feet and follow the shelf around to the left. As you turn the next corner the falling man is above your left shoulder about 10 feet high.
"Falling Man"
This is looking back from the falling man along the shelf to the hole we just went through.
Rounding the corner after falling man you step up and work your way around to the left onto a higher arena with petroglyphs on the walls all around.
One of the sheep panels.
If you pass across the arena and exit down to a carved waterway you can see this one by looking back. There are others if you turn right and follow the wall above the waterway.
After the end of the waterway, go right, to the Newspaper Rock where we took our group shot.
Turn around at Newspaper rock and back track about 50 feet and go up to the right and work your way around the rocks bearing left. You reach 3 panels just before a dropoff. Turn back around and go back to the area of Newspaper rock but turn right, toward the waterway you passed before. Instead of turning left to the waterway, turn right and follow faint trails straight along the side of the hills and around the end of the hills about 1/4 mile away to drop down toward the wash where 21 Goats are.
This is looking back uphill from 21 Goats area. Falling man area is up this hill and around to the right about 1/4 mile away. You can see the red capped rock that marks falling man area from many directions.
21 Goats.
One of the few wildflowers out this year. A Mustard.
Climbing through reservoir arch about 1/4 mile past 21 goats.
Landmark arch. Used as a reference point when returning to the cars.
Open country going south from the reservoir toward Khota Circus. It is 2 miles from 21 Goats to Khota Circus, south.
The upper panel at Khota Circus. All along the wall to the left of this panel are other petroglyphs.
The main Khota Circus panel.
After leaving Khota Circus we went through the "crack" and followed the rocks north, and back to the cars.
Indian paintbrush.
Joshua tree bloom
Mojave Yucca bloom.
