14 members started the weeks' hike with a 3 mile RT hike to Delicate Arch. We started early to find a parking space.
The trail starts at the Wolf ranch parking lot and passes this old ranch building after just a few yards.
Further along we pass the petroglyph area. You can still see the cars in the background.
The trail is 1.5 miles one way and gains about 500 ft. This is the last bit before rounding the corner and getting the first view of the arch.
At the same point looking left is another arch in an alcove.
First view of the arch is when you get there.
Brenda standing under the arch so you can measure how high it is.
Group shot under the arch.
Since the Delicate arch hike was finished by noon, we had to do something else. Here is some of the group in the Windows section of the park. The hiked from the parking lot through the window and up onto the rocks on the other side. From there they can take a photo through the arch with Turret arch centered in the window. It is particularly nice in the morning when the sun is shinning.
This is from my scouting trip last April. How it would have looked if we were earlier and if the sun was out.
Closer shot of Turret arch.
You have to stand where Jerry and Cheryl are to center Turret arch in the window.
Then we walked back across the parking lot to double arch.
Since the day was still young we decided to leave the park to hike to Corona Arch. The trailhead is 11.2 miles down Potash road out side the park on the way back to Moab. It is also a 3 mile RT hike with about 500 feet of gain.
It too has petroglyphs along the trail. I think this one explains how some petroglyphs came to be high above the ground....they obviously had help from alien life forms.
Further along the trail there is a rock stacking place. The trail goes over to the wall in the background and into the next basin where Corona arch is located.
Blooming Black brush.
This is the next basin Around the corner. You can see hikers above the alcove and Bowtie arch in the upper right corner.
Bowtie arch....Corona arch is just out of the frame to the right.
panorama of arch. Click on link, then on photo
Claret cup cactus. Much like Mojave mound cactus except it is here instead of the Mojave.
Some kind of Cryptantha.
