Anniversary Narrows

First time in 5 years we have been able to get there after the mining company stopped access. Seems that they are on a hiatus or something and have not replaced the no trespass signs that washed out. We started by driving up anniversary narrows road, crossing callville wash road on a steep ramp not suited for cars.  A Subaru would be at it's limits here. We continued about one mile to a pullout on the left that was signed Welcome to the ore car mine. The complete hike was only about 4 miles.

Then we walked up the road to where it crosses anniversary wash at a major washout of the road.

This is where the road is washed out and the start of our walk up the wash into the narrows. From here it is almost a mile to the narrows.

Some of the hikers went up to a mine to look it over.

First view of the narrows. The narrows are about 1200 feet long, but twisty so it seems longer.

Here it looks like you are dropping into a hole but it is just a raised shelf and the floor continues in a generally uphill direction.

Very soon you come to a rock jam that is not too difficult to climb up on the left, or the right.

It was a cloudy day so there was no problem with high contrast pictures.

The colors are mostly light tan, but with some red highlights.

This is at the top end just before it opens up. We turned around and went back the way we came. Total hike was about 4 miles.

There were 20 people in our group. Here are most of them.

Back down the narrows the views were a little different.
